Many actions can be taken to slowly counter and stop climate change and rising sea levels. Unfortunately, even if emissions of all greenhouse gases were to completely stop, Earth’s temperature would not cool. Since rising sea levels tie into climate change, it is tough to greatly help the cause individually. However, you can make a small difference and if enough people help, that can translate into a big difference. To help coral reefs, swimmers, boaters, and divers can treat coral reefs with care and respect. People can protect wetlands as much as possible by not disturbing the land, the flow of water, or plants in these areas. Ski resorts that depend on the winter can open up other activities like golf and mountain biking year around. These are all relatively simple acts, but can eventually make a huge difference.

As mentioned before, due to the fact that rising sea levels cannot be easily solved and is irreversible, the ‘best solution’ would have to be quite outrageous and tough to accomplish. Essentially, the best solution would to abolish all fossil fuel plants and only use renewable energy sources. Renewable energy means energy that comes from resources which are naturally replenished relatively quickly. However, all renewable energy sources are quite expensive to erect and maintain. Some of the most common examples are solar energy, wind energy, and hydroelectric energy. Solar power involves harnessing heat and light from the sun through the use of solar panels. It can be used for heating and buildings, for water heating, for generating electricity, and much more.  Hydroelectric energy is motion harnessed from water movement. The power is created when a wheel/turbine is turned by rushing water in rivers or moving water. Wind energy is created when the wind is captured by wind turbines, which then converts the motion into electricity. Unfortunately, all of these alternative clean energy sources also take up a lot of space. It would be a extremely hard task to only use renewable energy, and would require tons of work, help from the government, and lots of meetings and agreements all over the world. To directly counter the ocean, coastal cities could build large walls or dams along the coast to block off water. Eventually, if we stopped burning fossil fuels and only used renewable energy, then the warming of the Earth would slow down greatly and the acceleration of sea level rise would end.
